<p>The 122nd FS is the flying unit of the group operating the F-15A since June 1985 with a C-130H in support. Activated as the 122nd Observation Squadron at New Orleans in March 1941, the unit operated a selection of antiquated types. It was mobilized from October 1941 until October 1945 when the 122nd was allocated back to the National Guard. The unit was federalized as the 122nd Bombardment Squadron in December 1946 at New Orleans Airport with the A-26, until mobilized again between April 1951 and December 1952. The unit changed to a Fighter-Interceptor Squadron in June 1957 with F-80Cs and was incorporated into the 159th FG. The unit was assigned F-86Ds later in the year and moved to NAS New Orleans. Conversion to the F-102A was implemented in July 1960, followed exactly 10 years later by the F-100D and a change in designation to Tactical Fighter Squadron. F-4Cs were operated from April 1979 before upgrading to the F-15A.
